In MOME 206, I undertook the project of creating a 5-second logo animation for PlayStation, with a focus on utilizing advanced 3D camera techniques to evoke the nostalgic essence of the PlayStation 2 era. This animation centers around the iconic PlayStation controller symbols, immersing viewers in a journey through the brand's storied past.
To capture the nostalgia associated with the PlayStation 2, I meticulously designed the animation to highlight the circle, square, triangle, and cross symbols, which are deeply ingrained in PlayStation's brand identity. The animation begins with a dynamic 3D camera movement that gradually reveals these symbols, each emerging with a subtle glow reminiscent of the classic PS2 boot-up sequence. The camera transitions elegantly between the symbols, creating a sense of movement and depth that engages the viewer. Color played a significant role in the animation. I employed the classic PlayStation color palette, with each symbol glowing in its respective hue: green for the triangle, red for the circle, blue for the cross, and pink for the square. These vibrant colors not only reinforce brand recognition but also enhance the nostalgic feel, reflecting the neon-like aesthetics popular during the PS2 era. Sound design was carefully selected to complement the visual elements. Subtle, nostalgic audio cues reminiscent of the PlayStation 2 enhance the immersive experience, transporting viewers back to the early 2000s. The combination of visual and auditory elements creates a cohesive narrative that celebrates PlayStation's legacy.
